    The Wilmington baseball program has been on the cusp of something big for the last couple years.
    With a solid roster of returning players, the Wildcats will be looking to continue that success when they finished the previous season 14-11 overall.
    The Wildcats also went 8-8 in conference during the 2017 campaign, and finished with a loss in the Regional semfinal against a tough Reed-Custer team (9-6).
    Mike Bushnell will return for his third year as head coach, assisted by coaches Tim Hooker and Will Jansen.

    The only direction for Wilmington’s girls soccer team this year will be up.
    The Lady Wildcats finished their 2016 and 2017 campaigns  without a victory so the team that will take the field next week is determined to break that trend.
    The Lady ‘Cats are back with players with more experience and the desire to reshape the program.
    “We have continued to transition to a more athletic line-up,” coach David Blackburn said. “Our underclassmen have begun to develop into a steady core that can and will become a force over the next few years.”

    The state individual wrestling tournament is complete leaving us dissatisfied.
    The IHSA may not have a problem deciding who and where regional and sectional tournaments are held, but how teams were assigned this year shortchanged some of the best wrestlers.
    “I do feel the postseason set up is not working, and the IHSA needs to make improvements,” said Reed-Custer coach Jeff Sukley. “How is the big question.”
