Ice kiosk open for business

There’s a new business up and operating in Braidwood, just in time for the weather to warm up.

Braidwood resident Joe Hudetz owns the “Nice Ice” kiosk on Main Street, and another kiosk in Wilmington. The 24-hour operation can dispense ice and cold water, for a price that Hudetz said is a fraction of what folks pay in the store.

Hudetz gave a presentation about his new water delivery system to the City Council on April 28.

    The School District 209-U Board of Education seated the members elected in the April 4 Consolidated Election, and approved assignments to external groups during a special meeting held last week.
    The office of the Will County Clerk canvassed the votes on April 25. The School Board approved the abstract on Wednesday, April 26.

The Will County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred Saturday, April 29, at the BP gas station on the east Interstate 55 frontage road at Lorenzo Road, in Wilmington Township.
The incident was reported at 2:38 p.m. A 22-year-old male employee told the deputies that three male black subjects pulled up to the entrance of the store and exited a newer model Nissan or Kia.  Two men entered the store while the third stayed just inside the front door as a lookout.

    As many as five residents and The Free Press Advocate filed or plan to file requests for the Illinois Attorney General’s office to review last Friday’s actions of the Park Board to determine whether state law was violated. Meanwhile, the board is preparing a correct its error at a time when an established majority can maintain control.

Town to spruce up for Route 66 celebration

    Highlighting how much of an asset Route 66 is to the community, city administrator Frank Koehler recently sent a friendly letter to property owners in and around the downtown business district, asking them to spruce up for the 11th annual Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor Celebration on Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7.
    “No other roadway is as synonymous with travel, adventure and fun as Route 66,” he wrote. The Red Carpet Corridor event celebrates Route 66 and the important place it holds in the history and current success of the community.
