Editor’s note: Susan Myrick of Gardner wrote the following about Patrick McElroy, proprietor of Pat’s Standard Service, to nominate him for inclusion in the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame. While the station was in Dwight, McElroy spent most of his years living and working along the Mother Road, between Wilmington and Dwight.
Many people remember the first stop lights on Route 66 coming from Chicago. Pat's Standard Service was the service station found on the intersection of Routes 47 and 66 in Dwight, where the lights were located.
