Police are searching the area for an elderly woman who left her Shadow Lakes home between Sunday night and Monday morning and has not been seen since.

Kim Ellen “Kay” Gray, 73, was reported missing from her home at 104 Smallmouth Lane at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12.

Gray is a Korean American female, 5-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 130 pounds. She suffers with dementia. Police believe she may have wandered away from her home on Sunday evening.

On Monday, the Braidwood Fire Department and mutual aid from MABAS Division 15 were called in to perform a water search in the lake closest to Gray’s home.

“They did a water rescue search with sonar, and a physical-visual search,” said Braidwood Police Chief Nick Ficarello. “Anybody who sees her or has any information on her, please call 911.”

The MABAS search was called to a close by late Monday afternoon, with no sign of Gray.

On Tuesday, the police department formed a search party, utilizing about 20 local volunteers to search throughout the entire Shadow Lakes community. By 5 p.m., Gray had not been located, but the search had to be called off due to incoming storms.

The search was set to resume first thing in the morning on Wednesday, June 14, with volunteers heading out to the rest of the waterways in Shadow Lakes.

“We’re going to put as many boats in the water as possible to search all of Shadow Lakes, as much as we can,” Ficarello said.

The search will also include a cadaver dog and an active scent search dog. Search party volunteers can come to Braidwood City Hall at 9 a.m. to volunteer, or the Braidwood Police Department for more information, or can contact the department at 815-458-2342. A second search will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday if Gray is not located.
